Arsenal Academies Amongst the best in the world
English Ladies Academies


Arsenal Ladies have been ranked among the best teams in the world, according to a top women's football web site.

Umea IK, who are Arsenal's opponents in the forthcoming UEFA Women's Cup Final, are rated as the best team in the world at present with German side Duisburg and Vancouver Whitecaps of Canada in second and third respectively. FC Indiana of the USA, who recently captured the much vaunted signature of young Russian hot shot Elena Danilova, are in fifth.

Charlton Athletic have also made it on to the web site's top 20 list, the Premier League Cup holders are ranked in 17th place.
 

Arsenal Ladies FC are one of the few clubs to operate with an academy for 16-19 year olds as from September 2000. Arsenal Ladies Academy gives young female players the opportunity to combine football training and academic studies on a day to day basis.

The students currently have their lectures in the morning and football training in the afternoon's with matches on Wednesday afternoon's / evenings. You do not have to play for Arsenal Ladies FC to qualify into the Academy but if you are interested, you may get a chance to trial for the team.

Emma Hayes is the new Academy Director as of July 2006, after the retirement of Fred Donnelly who had been in the post for 6 years. Emma has spent the last six years coaching in America, including being Head Coach for the W-League team Long Island Lady Riders, where she won National Coach of the year in 2002. And most recently worked her way up to the senior staff for the US Youth Soccer Association identify young talent on regional camps.
